Trained in dance and music from an early age, MeiMei (WU Yanmei) is a dancer, singer, actress and Chinese zither player who has since gone on to perform to international acclaim. Originally from Jiangsu province, China, MeiMei’s dance performances have been broadcast both on China Central Television (CCTV) and the BBC.

In 2006 she gained her MMus in (East Asian) Music Performance from SOAS, University of London and was also selected by Theatre-Rites, a London-based theatre company, to receive a bursary for minority ethnic visual artists/choreographers.

In 2009, she was nominated and short-listed for the 2009 Big Ben Award, the Ten Outstanding Chinese Young Persons in the UK Award.

MeiMei performed Jurong in the Royal Philharmonic Society award-winning opera Confucius Says at the Hackney Empire (HMDT). Other theatre credits include: MeiMei in Lighten Up (Unicorn Theatre, London); Master Yin/Lady Meng in The First Emperor (Yellow Earth Theatre); Riko in Peace Pagoda (Royal Opera House, London); and Weaver Girl in Defying Fate (Tramway Theatre, Glasgow, in collaboration with Scottish Composer Eddie McGuire).

MeiMei has been involved in the production of an educational DVD 'Reel Lives Shanghai' by Music for Change as presenter and musician. The DVD is now being used in many schools in the UK. MeiMei also enjoys filmmaking, and has recently completed her MA in Visual Anthropology at Goldsmiths, University of London.
